The Top 5 Worst A Nightmare on Elm Street Deaths

(Spoilers for films in the Nightmare Before Elm Street franchise are below).

There were a lot of kills on A Nightmare on Elm Street and a lot of them were great … see our Top 10 list.  Then there were the kills that weren’t so great.  This is that list. The list with the kills that were so over the top ridiculous and/or stupid that you were more than likely groaning instead of enjoying the movie.  Like the Top 10 Freddy’s Kills list, Freddy being killed will not be counted as a death.

Also, so we don’t unceasingly rip on the Freddy’s Dead, we will only take one kill from each movie.

5. A Nightmare on Elm Street 3: Dream Warriors – Will

Hilarious for all the wrong reasons.  Will is wheelchair bound, so having him being nearly run down by a giant spiked wheelchair is pretty cruel.  The 80’s stereotypes about nerd behavior comes out in full force here as Will portrays an incredibly inaccurate rendition of a fantasy loving nerd.

4. Freddy vs Jason – Mark

Freddy’s lone kill besides the dozens of times he should have killed Jason in this movie. That’s pretty sad for a nefarious slasher, and it also means this lone kill needs to count.  Unfortunately, it doesn’t. The fact that Freddy brand tattoos his name into Mark’s back comes across as lame. Not helping the name branding is the “madly in love high school girl” bubble letter text that’s used to do it.

3. A Nightmare on Elm Street 2: Freddy’s Revenge – Coach Schneider

This one’s ridiculous.  The fact that we’re led to believe that Freddy is only manipulating this kill rather than committing it would make it bad enough. But then there are the towel whips, the fact that the coach is stripped naked in his own locker room, and all the other homosexual undertones before it.  This death is just plain messed up.  (This kill is just over a minute in the video – it’s the best we could find at this point).

2. A Nightmare on Elm Street 4 – Kristen

Kristen was the leading survivor of A Nightmare on Elm Street 3, so watching her die in the fourth movie could have potentially been shocking.  Instead it became a laughing point.  The original Kristen was recast by Tuesday Knight who was trying to get her singing career going at the time … it didn’t get going and if you watch the intro to A Nightmare on Elm Street 4, you’ll see why. The nightmare begins when Kristen is drugged into sleeping by her mom … so it’s more then fair to say that her mom essentially kills her.  It only gets worse from there.  During her nightmare she meets Freddy on the beach as a shark, and then he resorts to human for albeit with some “cool” shades. He eventually brings her back to the boiler room to be thrown into her fiery grave.  We couldn’t find a video of this death, but the picture below really puts some meaning into the expression: a picture can say more than a thousand words.

1. A Nightmare on Elm Street 6: Freddy’s Dead – Spencer

Every kill in the 6th movie was ridiculous, and on any given day anyone of them could take this top spot.  I do believe one tops out the rest though… In a parody of classic sidescrolling video games, Freddy sucks Spencer into an actual video game.  The two battle it out as 16 bit graphic caricatures of themselves, before it’s game over for super high Spencer. The only nice thing about this is Johnny Depp’s cameo.
